Ergun Software for Boilers

A Useful Set of Tools

"ERGUN for Boilers” package includes all necessary data for the calculation of flue gas and/or steam properties.

Three “Tools” are available:

  1. Steam properties calculator
  2. Gas mixture mean Cp calculator
  3. Combustion test (including heating value estimator for solid fuels).

The “Steam Properties Calculator”, for example, helps the user to check the state of a water (or steam) current and its enthalpy for a set of given pressure and temperature. The choice of the steam database is very important in the heat balance of the Boilers and Steam Generation systems. The choice of the steam table is made after a number of case studies.

The integrated database can also be used for the calculation of mean properties of gas mixtures between two temperatures. This is especially useful for heat balances.

Note that the “Tools” are only provided to facilitate the data preparation and the results verifications.  In practice, Ergun software performs all the necessary calculations for any of Steam or Flue gas properties.

 A performant calculator

Steam tables always provide data in a table format where the enthalpy of Water, Saturated Steam and SuperHeat Steam are functions of T and P. The values of T and P are in descete form and do not coincide with those we need. Ergun DataBase includes a performant "Interpolator" to calculated the precise value of any of the above enthalpies.

The Interpolation algorithm also includes the possibility of passing from saturated water or steam to superheat steam with good precision.

The "Combustion Test" tool is simple way to evaluate LHV (Lower Heating Value) of a Fuel and the flue gas composition for a given air excess.
