CFB Step by Step modeling and design

To begin a modeling or design project, we advise the user to follow the procedure shown in the diagram beside.

Sure, one can go directly to CFB Simulation and try to make the whole project "in one step". However, the experience in modeling of such a system shows that it is always difficult to get the convergency when each of the diverse items of the project are not checked seperatly.

The most reasonnable way to beging to design or study a CFB is to begin with the first three steps:

  • Particle (Geldart's diagram)
  • Grid
  • Reh's diagram

These simple modules let the user to get a rough idea about the base conditions. In practice, the most important steps of modeling in a CFB project are :

  • Flow Pattern study
  • HC Cyclone design

Once the Flow Pattern is (approximately) know, the "Pressure Equilibrium Diagram" can be check.

Note that the CFB Simulation remains the main goal of the project, because one of the most important parameters of the system, "Solid Circulating Rate" (SCR), can only be calculated by this modules. Meanwhile, the SCR affects strongly the "Flow Pattern" and consequently the "Cyclone" working conditions.

Ergun CFB Software offer a impressive CFB Simulation algorithm that leads the system to converge and provide a number of features (SCR, Population Balance, Size Distributions at all levels, Multi-stage flow pattern with or without secondary air, etc.).
