Assessing the toxicity of chemical substances

Objectif

Provides an overview of the concepts and tools used to assess the hazards and risks posed to human heath by chemical substances.

Contenu

What is toxicology, toxicity ? The difference between hazard and risk. Routes of entry and fate of chemical substances in the body. Concept of target dose. Experimental methods for assessing the effects. The need and tools for predictivity (predictive chemistry, sytems biology models, in vitro toxicity testing). Epidemiology and health impact assessment. The (near) future of toxicity testing.
