This specialization is related to the « Biotechnology Boom ». Biology has for a long time been considered a science of discovering what already exists, whereas biotechnology implies a creative, inventive and innovative process. Thesis work is taking place in the Enzymatic and Cellular research unit wich is accredited by the CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research).
Several higher education institutions are co-accredited to supervise research in this field (UTC, Jules Verne University of Picardie, the ENSIA School in Massy and the INA School in Paris Grignon) which shows that this program is based on several recognized research laboratories working on the implementation of biological functions at their different levels of complexity : molecular, supramolecular and cellular and pluricellular.
