Technology, Humanities & Social Sciences

Particular attention is paid to the humanities and social sciences at UTC. The aim is to place human issues at the center of technology. UTC encourages students to be in touch with today’s socio-economic world through specific courses ranging from learning about the work environment and management to the history and philosophy of science. Training in the humanities and social sciences helps students mature and be more autonomous.

This department is responsible for educating & training students in 3 fields :

Expression and communication : to improve person-to-person communication skills as well as communication via technological media, from a simple computer file to complex multimedia systems. This field therefore helps students acquire essential multimodal communication techniques. Foreign language is part of this field, and UTC is currently offering the following : English, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Chinese and French as a foreign language.
Culture & technology : to encourage personal thought about the purpose of organizations and the meaning of human activity. This particular approach studies historical and cultural contexts. Included are courses on the history of science, epistemology and philosophy.
Company management : to teach students about how a company operates and more generally, economics, law, social relations and socio-political implications in the industrial world.

Training periods in companies allow students to understand the relevance of these studies and their implementation.

This department has also created an interdepartmental specialization and some minors which allow future engineers to acquire an additional specialization :
