Transformation and valorisation of natural resources

It offers programs in the domain of natural resources transformation and valorisation including agro-resources, inorganic resources, energy resources.

The three first specializations of the following list are taught partly at the UPJV and the UTC during the fi rst year, and at the UTC during the second year. The three last specializations are taught at the UPJV.

Biotechnology

The speciality takes place within the framework of the development of biotechnologies and the use of renewable carbon molecules from plants to replace the fossil carbon reserves. The biology was for a long time a science of the discovery of what exists. On the contrary, the biotechnology implies an approach of creation, invention and innovation. This way, UTC and UPJV have created for 25 years new ways for the implementation of biological functions, to explain the behavior of living systems and to elaborate technological tools.

The rapid advance of knowledge in the field of Biology, the shorter and shorter time frame separating the scientific discovery from its industrial, agricultural or medical application, a "bioindustry" getting more focused on state-oftheart techniques coming from research argue in favour of such a speciality, always demonstrating even more the continuum between fundamental research and applied research.

Sustainable technologies for valorisation of renewable resources

The objective of this speciality is to give to the students the knowledge and methodologies necessary for conception, assessment and development of sustainable technologies on the basis of clean and green processes (economs in reactives and energy, respectful of environment). It presents the technologies for transformation and conversion of bioresources, production of bioenergy or molecules with high added value, valorisation of biomass and by-products, minimisation of wastes, capture of CO2.

The educational program covers the principles of :
  • eco-conception and of eco-effectiveness
  • innovative and alternative techniques
  • processes for biorefineries
  • valorisation of by-products and wastes

Formulated product engineering

The objective of the Fomulated Product Engineering specialization is to provide our students the required knowledge to design and formulate products with specific end-use properties (for instance in paints, cosmetics, controlled drug delivery, agrochemicals, detergency …).

The program, which is strongly multidisciplinary, is related to the fields of physical-chemistry, chemical engineering and biotechnology, and is based on a multiscale approach, going from the molecular properties, and mixing technologies to the final product properties. Emphasis is given to the incorporation of biomolecules issued from renewable agriculture resources. Formed specialists will be able to integrate private companies, research institutions, and may also follow PhD studies.

This program involves faculty of the Department of Industrial Process Engineering (UTC), and of our partners UPJV and ESCOM. In addition, conferences are given by industry professionals. The cursus will be held on the UPJV campus for the first semester (M1S1), and on the UTC campus for the following semesters (M1S2 and M2).
