Integrated Alterno-starter on thermal block.

The common research program UTC-VALEO is a four-year program, aiming at studying various types of electric machines and controls for an " integrated starter generator" application.

The starting functions of the thermal engine and generation of energy are provided by only one electric machine located at the coupling system level. The size and operating conditions constraints are very important and lead to new approaches, as much to the level of the dimensioning as of the modeling or control of the electric actuators considered.

This program allows to have five teacher-researchers cooperate with three VALEO engineers and two Phd. A set of project leaders and technicians also takes part into the well functioning of the project.

ADI on bench of tests

Synchronous machine rotor

This structure makes it possible to work on ambitious research projects, with relatively significant means: realization of prototypes, tests on bench (the cost of the test bench can be evaluated to 1 M€). This program, started in 1999, was interested, initially, with the possibilities offered by the asynchronous machine.

This action resulted in a set of prototypes validated on bench and assembled on demonstrator vehicle. A comparative study, with a synchronous wound rotor machine, was carried out and gave place to publication.

The current research projects aim at continuing the development of the preceding actions and at considering the possibilities offered by an original structure of permanent magnet machine.
