About Compiègne

Royal and imperial residence of sovereigns since the origin of the monarchy, Compiègne is a tourist and summer resort. It offers the visit to many touristic sites, such as castles, museums and the Armistice Clearings. It is surrounded by one of the largest forests in France.

Compiègne is conveniently located close to Paris (~70 km away), with easy access by train or by car from the capital.

- The international Roissy/Charles de Gaulle Airport in the North of Paris is only 40 minutes away.
- Many low cost destinations are available from and to Paris-Beauvais airport (BVA) that is 45 min away.

 

How to go to Compiègne

  • By car
    • From Paris: take motorway A1 (direction Lille), exit number 9 (Compiègne Sud),
    • From Lille: take motorway A1 (direction Paris), exit number 10 (Compiègne Ouest)
  • By train
    • From Paris: from the railway station "Gare du Nord", take the train to Compiègne Station (on the train line Paris - Saint-Quentin - Maubeuge)
  • By plane
    • Arrival at Orly Airport. Take Orlyval to station "Antony" and then RER B to reach "Gare du Nord" railway station. Then take the train to Compiègne (see above).
    • Arrival at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle Airport. Take RER B to "Gare du Nord" railway station. Then take the train to Compiègne (see above). You may also use a taxi directly from Roissy to Compiègne or rent a a chauffeur driven car.

 

Summer School location

The MeDDiCA summer school will take place on the UTC Campus, located on the ‘Centre de Recherche de Royallieu’. We will be in the building ‘Centre Pierre Guillaumat 2’ (PG2). Only the Friday lunch will be at the ‘Centre de Transfert’.

From the railway station and many other locations downtown, take bus number 5 (bus stop ‘Guy Denielou’) or 3/4 (bus stop ‘Centre de Recherche’), or take a cab. Buses are free of charge in Compiègne
