AVENUES - GSU

The AVENUES research unit was created in 2006 with the support of the UTC’s Scientific Council and Policy Board. Their objective is to model the vulnerability and sturdiness of urban systems to better understand and reinforce them through cross-disciplinary and systemic methods.

AVENUES deals with issues such as the accessibility stakes due to network breakdowns and the vulnerability of resources while focusing on energy saving and optimization for the proper functioning of buildings.  This perspective requires engineering skills and knowledge and in environmental, urban and architectural development.

Research topics

Two complementary research topics have been defined to respond to current demands to take into account environmental stakes and sustainable development :

  •  Major risks and urban areas
  •  Design and energy optimization in buildings

Established relations with other UTC faculty or from the outside have allowed developing programs and research contracts with institutional partners or industry in the field of environmental planning or construction in general.

The AVENUES research unit is involved in teaching Urban Systems Engineering at the UTC.
