Research units

Research units associated with the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS)

Biomechanics and biomedical engineering (BMBI)

This research unit works in areas from the engineering sciences as well as life sciences in studying biomechanical or biomedical problems…

Enzym and cell engineering (GEC)

This research unit deals with the creation of new functions which do not exist in nature to explain the reality of the living world and to produce tools for biotechnology.

Heuristics and complex systems diagnostics (Heudiasyc)

This unit carries out research in automatics, decisions, images and computers while taking into account human factors.

Mechanics, acoustics and materials (Roberval)

The activities of this research unit concern the development of experimental, theoretical and multidisciplinary skills involved in the design of structures, machine components or mechanical systems integrating fluid-solid interaction.

Research units accredited by the French Ministry of Research

Knowledge, organization and technical systems (COSTECH)
Costech is a team of researchers from various fields in the humanities and social sciences

Electromechanical (LEC)
LEC is a structure which is focused on a unique type of research: “Electrical actuators and embarked energy drivability systems".

Applied mathematics (LMAC)
LMAC’s activities concern fields such as applied mathematics, numerical analysis and optimization on one hand, and probability and statistics on the other hand.

Integrated transformations of renewable material (TIMR)
The fields of application of this laboratory are essentially in agro-industry and sewage and waste treatment

Other research group

Analysis of environmental and urban vulnerability (AVENUES). This group's objective is to model the vulnerability and sturdiness of urban systems.

Technological platforms

The notion of platforms was created to help carry out pluridisciplinary scientific projects. A platform is not a new research unit, but a project which lasts 3 to 4 years, and for which 2 research units or more share their human and financial resources.

Three platforms have been ratified by UTC’s Scientific Council :

  •  The agro-industry platform. Two research units share their resources : Integrated Transformation of renewable materials (TIMR) and Enzymatic and Cellular Engineering (GEC). This platform develops projects in two fields: industrial technologies for advanced separation and analytical technologies for natural products. Various projects have already been identified as “new alternative natural sources” and electroporation.

  •  The PILCAD platform (Inter-laboratory platform for distributed calculations). Collaboration in parallel and distributed calculation between the joint UTC-CNRS laboratories Roberval and Heudiasyc began in the framework of the “Parallel Processing ” project in the regional center on modeling. The collaboration between these two research units continued and a group of research workers proposed this project for a platform. The synergy has allowed promoting research which aims at developing digital tools (load balancing, code coupling, meshing) for parallel and distributed processing of large scale applications.

  •  The Preced Platform (Research platform on corrosion erosion deposits. Two research units TIMR and  Roberval share their knowledge and resources at the UTC for controlling corrosion/erosion interaction in combustion/incineration zones which are used for producing primary energy from fossil combustibles and/or waste.

Action research units

UTC has developed a new concept called "innovation units". These units bring together researchers involved in developing prototypes or validating concepts.

  •  Innovation engineering of education contents and knowledge
  •  Innovative design and quality of products and processes
