Specialty - Computer Systems and Networks (GI-SRI)

The aim of the GI-SRI elective specialty aims at training students capable of designing corporate data processing systems. The courses cover a coherent approach to building networks, system and distributed applications in such a way as to prepare the students to become ICT infrastructure project managers, including all the associate installations (dimensions, design, security …). Numerous continuously renewed technologies are involved.

Programme

To prepare the GI-SRI students for project management of computer infrastructures, the courses have 4 priority orientations:

  • advanced technologies
  • high level theoretical courses to be able to follow evolutions in this domain
  • 6-man project groups to learn how to work in team formation
  • primer courses on the main ICT system applications (e.g., data mining)

The basic courses are completed by methodology sessions (project management, software engineering, quality assessment (QA) ... ). Industrial partners enrich the courses with their professional experience.

Research

The GI-SRI specialty is backed by the "Network and Optimization" research team at UTC-Heudiasyc Lab working currently on networks, distributed systems and security for computer and data processing systems and networks.

Placements and Industrial Relations

Ever since the GI-SRI specialty was launched, the involvement of industrial partners has also been a strong point, with companies such as: EDF, BNP Paribas, Cap Gemini, Vinci Construction, etc. The partners change regularly, ensuring that the course contents are up to date. Special lectures are given each year to discuss topical issues.

Examples of placements

  • Complex computer bases projects, with networks, web "apps" and management of data bases.
  • Analysis and installation of solutions that aim at securing computer-based systems (often confidential)
  • Design of innovative applications for connected obkects technolpogy and mobile computer sciences.

International

Students who take the GI-SRI elective specialty can be accepted for a semester study in one of UTC's partner universities (mainly in Canada, Sweden, Spain, USA, Japan (cf. table).

Career prospects

GI-SRI students are encouraged to follow the most recent technological progress; most lecturers in the specialty are themselves former GI-SRI UTC graduates.

Further Education

As for the students in GI-SRI above, UTC also proposes to the GI-ICSI students

  • the Master's degree in Technology for Cooperating Autonomous Systems (TIS)

  • a PhD in TIS

› The above courses and other, shorter modules whether leading to a diploma award or not, can be obtained in the UTC Continuous Education scheme or via the Professional experience validation scheme (VAE).
