Feb. 12, 2018, the Hauts-de-France Region celebrated the Chinese New Year with a festive evening at the Regional Authorities HQ in Lille (6-9 pm). The regional President Xavier Bertrand was also delighted to welcome His Excellency the extraordinary and plenipotentiary Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in France, Mr. Zhai Jun, France and also Libin LIU, volley-ball player with the Tourcoing Lille Métropole Volley-Ball club..

The Region provided a bus to enable students and staff to reach Lille. UTC was represented by 43 attendees who took great pleasure to, participate in the events: calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting arts, paper cutting, traditional Chinese costumes, the masked Opera of Beijing … the evening’s organizer also offered a Dragon & Lion dance and several typically ethnic dance routines alongside an Asian buffet supper.

Below a quote from two participants:

I am really happy to be a participant of this large event. The Chinese New Year celebration was amazing with so many Chinese cultural exhibitions and performances, especially the dragon and lion dance. I was so surprised that the dancers are not Chinese and I was very proud of this kind of cultural exchange and acceptance. As a Chinese student in France, I feel very grateful to all the organizers, the teachers, the venue service staffs, the dancers, the drivers... and mostly Haut de France, without whom nothing can be done. In addition, the food and gifts served are very good! Finally, I wish the friendship between the Chinese people and the French people will last forever. ( Guoqiang Wei )

I really appreciate Region Hauts-de-France and Miss Chen organizing and inviting me to this meaningful evening party for the coming Chinese Spring Festival. This party makes me truly feel the enthusiasm of French people and the friendship between France and China. It will be helpful for us to gain a fully understanding of each other. ( Ke Li )
