Ceremony for the annual James Dyson Awards

Yesterday was marked by the ceremony for the annual James Dyson Awards, to which UTC-IDI students ( industrial design elective) were candidates. Jordy Manière and Romain Radreaux, in particular, were finalists with a project code-named LIFTUP, that helps persons with mobility difficulties to sit down and stand up while maintaining the person’s back - without need for electric power input. This greatly improves their autonomy and comfort.

The device can be retrofitted to any form of wheel-chair and is composed of two hydraulic pistons, with variable settings, providing between 50 to 70% of the muscular effort required to stand up or to sit again, in a progressive and controlled way.
