2017-2020 CRE@TION PROJECT - LEARNING COLLABORATIVE WORK MEDIATED BY DIGITAL DEVICES

The objective of our research is collaborative work and learning to work collaboratively using digital tactile devices with large dimensions, which permit simultaneous interaction of several people on the same shared surface.
Shared work surfaces (horizontal and vertical) being used synchronously in the same location may play a social role of inclusivity and offer the possibility for fun interactions. This type of system fills the void left by individual screens, which reduce “direct” interactions between subjects (in particular in face-to-face interactions with perceptual crossing.) (Turkle, 2015)
What value-add do tactile these tactile devices bring to collective practices in problem-solving and what effects do these practices have on individual learning? What class organization, what collective work environments based on tactile technology can be put into place to facilitate students’ collective work and collaboration, while also positively impacting individual learning? What accompaniment, initial and continued training could be put in place to foster the appropriation and utilization of these practices? These are the questions that this project aims to address.
The project Cré@tion was proposed by Thierry Gidel, Francois Villemonteix, university professor at the Université de Lille in the CIREL laboratory, and Nathalie Herr, academic delegate for digital education from the board of education at Amiens, within the context of a call for projects by the Directorate of Digital Education (DNE) of the national department of education. 2017-2020 - 36 months – 332k€. http://halnum.utc.fr/index.html

2015-2016 HALLE NUMERIQUE PROJECT

The project Halle Numérique (Digital Hall) permitted the deployment of an innovative method of pedagogy by project, drawing on the installation of 5 digital spaces, each one composed of a large table and tactile board.
The facility is operational today. In following the link: http://halnum.utc.fr/index.html, you can see tutorials and download operating instructions. 2015-2016 - 18 months – 807k€.

2010-2013 TATIN PIC PROJECT - INTERACTIVE WORK TABLE DEDICATED TO PRELIMINARY DESIGN COLLABORATION / COLLABORATIVE ENGINEERING DESIGN INTERACTIVE TABLE

Made more visible by the success of the iPhone, interactive surfaces continue to be developed exponentially. This new mode of interaction is, until now, limited to consumer applications. An orginilatiy of the TATIN project is to introduce the usage of an interactive table into professional activities of conception of products and services.
The co-conception of a demonstrator table and associated uses (enaction) will respond to specific needs of actors for conception.
In this project, we will explore the impact of a novel technological tool on the manipulation of intermediate states of product representations and projects as well as the modes of collaboration in conception.
Project coordinated by Thierry GIDEL (COSTECH) and implicating 17 members of multiple laboratories and centers at UTC and UPJV (Costech, Heudiasyc, MIS Amiens, Centre d'Innovation). 2010 - 2013 - 36 months - 635k€. http://www.utc.fr/tatin/TATIN/PROJECT.html
