Ergun Software for Boilers

A Complete Design in Three Simple Steps

A project is divided into three separate steps of calculation with user’s confirmation between steps. As we mentioned in the "Environment" section, "ERGUN for Boilers” software is deisgned for an interactive calculation procedure. By "Interactive", we mean that the program is not a black box. After each step of calculation the intermediate data can be checked and the data can be revised if necessary. This is especially useful for beginners but also lets the confirmed designer to put his (her) own touch in the design procedure.

The first step consist of preliminary calculations based on one kg of fuel to evaluate the heat production capacity of the system. Combustion and Bed Total Efficiencies are evaluated for the following steps of calculation.

In the second step, the placement of heat exchangers (Bed, Backpass, Wing walls and or External HE) is defined. The program automatically optimizes the global configuration by applying the PINCH Technology (see Technology section above).

Once the choice of Heat Exchangers configuration is made. Do we need extra heat exchanger inside the bed (wing walls or any) or as EHE ? Is it better to put a part of superheater in the bed and a part in the backpass? These are example of questions that are clarified in this step. The heat duty of heat exchangers are calculated before the final step.

The final step performs the calculation of Bed andCyclones dimensions and defines the best configuration for the placement of cyclones. Please note that the "Ergun for Boiler Software" does not perform hydrodynamics calculations (bed or cyclones). Hydrodynamics aspect can be studied by using Ergun BFB or Ergun CFB packages. However, this is not necessary to perform Boilers heat and mass balance calculations.
