Fields of excellence

These “fields of excellence” correspond to a sports, musical, entrepreneurial or associative activity practiced by students at a certain level. These activities are an integral part of their curriculum.

Sport in the local innovation ecosystem

The worlds of business and sport share a common drive for performance. Both operate on the basis of objectives and are confronted by the pressure of results and competition. The high-level practice of a sport introduces a physical dimension that makes it easier to energize teams and foster team-building skills. The practice of sport is an undeniable factor in exchanges in an unusual context and in bringing people together around a different collective experience.

To meet the needs of top-level student athletes, UTC has created a special structure: UTC Sports élite. This structure welcomes top-level athletes and those with an area of excellence in a given sport, through individualized pedagogical support in consultation with UTC’s teaching staff. The curriculum is thus adapted to enable each student athlete to attend classes and continue competing in his/her particular sport.

Training advantages of the elite sports curriculum

  • Adapted personalised curriculum
  • Optimized timetable to facilitate training
  • Individual interviews
  • Educational follow-up
  • Agreements with local clubs

An example, to illustrate:

UTC-Compiegne and Sport Nautique Compiégnois (SNC) have signed a partnership agreement. The aim of this agreement is to promote and develop high-level rowing performances levels among UTC engineering students, whilst enhancing UTC's attractiveness to “senior rowers from the SNC or other clubs wishing to pursue engineering studies

Thanks to the “Sport Elite Aviron” programme, students benefit from a double curriculum of excellence, combining a first-rate academic education with an ambitious sporting career. This programme enables them to progress in two institutions renowned for their outstanding results, both academically and athletically, and to develop fully in an environment suited to their ambitions.

Elite Music

Elite Music

Music is a rigorous field that requires personal perseverance and patience to achieve results. Musicians, like engineers, must be able to surpass themselves in their work to achieve the desired results.

When practicing music, the student-musician will first and foremost mobilize his or her powers of concentration, expression, attention and, above all, of listening capacity, to bring out an artistic dimension in the best of cases.

Students practicing music at a high level can benefit from personalised support at UTC-Compiegne thanks to the “Parcours Musique Élite” (PME), whose aim is to facilitate the parallel management of studies and musical activities.

The advantages of the PME (Parcours Musique Élite)

  • Personalized support ;
  • Adaptation of the student curriculum (under certain conditions) to provide free time for musical practice;
  • Optimization of timetables to enable continuation of presence at Conservatory courses;
  • Provision of rehearsal space and instrument storage on the Benjamin Franklin site.

Admission criteria

  • For Conservatory enrolled students, a minimum level of post-graduate training is required.
  • For students whose training did not take place in a Conservatory, the candidate's level can be determined by the concerts, projects, competition results, studio recordings (…) performed.

The program is not aimed solely at “classical” Conservatory students, but is open to other musical styles and to students from other types of training. All applications will be examined on a case-by-case basis, special attention being paid to students who have not studied at a conservatory.

Students can also join the UTC's various musical musical associations and take 3 music CCs: MU01 (collective practice – classical music), MU02 (high-level practice – in partnership with the Conservatory) and MU03 (collective practice of contemporary music).

Nota bene: In 2024, eight students were selected to join the Radio- France ‘Grands Amateurs’ orchestra!

Elite Entrepreneurship

Elite Entrepreneurship

Why such a course?

As part of the university's mission: several factors have led UTC-Compiegne to position itself in favour of entrepreneurship ventures.

For the first time, entrepreneurship training is recognized as one of the key training objectives in higher education, integrating entrepreneurship and innovation into a teaching content. Every year, the number of motivated students interested in entrepreneurship continues to grow. In a national context where the State is putting in place a large number of aids, tools and support, it is essential to offer UTC students an interesting arrangement best adapted to their needs. The aim is to offer a pathway linking the academic (engineering) curriculum and the entrepreneurial project.

Students will be able to join a course in the form of a “promo (class)”, enabling them to adjust their individual timetables and thus dedicate more time to their entrepreneurial project. The course cannot be detached from a rich ecosystem: students will be assigned a national status of “student entrepreneur”, as issued by the Ministry for Higher Education and Research.

Given that UTC-Compiegne is a co-founder of the ITerra incubator/accelerator, cf., Home – iTerra student entrepreneurs will have turnkey support “from your idea to the market-place”, thus creating a real continuum in the value-creation process at UTC-Compiegne.

Entrepreneurship plays an essential role in economic growth: it stimulates job creation, promotes competitiveness and helps solve the complex problems facing Society. As such, it is crucial to invest in developing the skills and tools needed to support entrepreneurship, by offering adequate support, training and easy, rapid access to resources and expertise.

This curriculum pathway will enable step-by-step progress on the entrepreneurial project in addition to studies:

  • Adaptation to the curriculum (one-off activity to replace the PFE (end of studies project) with the entrepreneurial project).
  • Possibility of devoting time to the entrepreneurial project via CC TN15
  • Individual coaching to challenge the project from all possible angles and prepare for various milestones.
  • Access to internal and external financing
  • Obtaining the national status as a student entrepreneur
  • Building on links with partners, UTC Alumnis, mentoring
  • And so on …

Who is it for?

The Elite Entrepreneurship programme will be open to all engineering students (but excluding first semester UTC – TC01 and GX1 if direct entry into the branch), apprentices (excluding first semester UTC – GX1) and Master's degree students (depending on the conditions of the curriculum – M1 or M2 2nd year). Students with an innovative idea based on their own experience, or work carried out as part of a CC course or event, will be able to present their ideas and turn them hopefully into a viable project.

Students must demonstrate their motivation to enter the Elite Entrepreneurship programme.

The jury will assess the candidate's motivations and project contents and aims:

  • Entrepreneurial motivation (the candidate's ability to explain the meaning of and reasons for his/her project, as well as his/her personal and professional objectives – in relation to the choice of course),
  • degree of maturity of the project (elements enabling the project to be qualified and its appropriateness to be assessed (documentary research, market exploration, questions about potential beneficiaries, draft proof of concept, etc.),
  • expectations and needs concerning interest in the course (extent of the candidate's commitment if he/she joins the course, ability to project himself/herself into the coming semesters, ability to be in a learning posture).

How to apply?

Candidates must register on the UTC project platform, UtoC, using their ENT login: https://partenaires.utc.fr/extranet/login
Then go to MENU – FORMULAIRES – ENTREPRENEURIAT ELITE

The jury will be made up of UTC's Director of Socio-Economic Partnerships and Entrepreneurship (DPSEE), the head of UTC's Entrepreneurship Centre, a pedagogical manager and an ecosystem representative.

After the jury meeting and assessment, the candidates will receive an e‑mail indicating whether they have been accepted (or not) into the programme, with the underlying reasons.

If a candidate is selected, he or she will be offered an initial meeting to explain the course of the next semester.

If the candidate is unsuccessful, he/she will have the opportunity to reapply for the following semester if he/she takes into account the suggestions for improvement made by the jury.

Successful applicants will be offered a place in the UTC “les entrep'” scheme and/or support from a so-called “pépite” (PEPITE: Pôle étudiants pour l'innovation, le transfert et l'entrepreneuriat – A2U: Amiens, Artois, ULCO or SU: Alliance Sorbonne Université) of their choice, to help them make progress and receive support alongside their studies.

Candidates can apply for one of two periods:

  • For a fall semester start
    • Online application: early April to late May
    • Jury assessment meeting: in June
  • For admission in the spring semester
    • Online application: early November to late December
    • Jury assessment meeting: during January

An information meeting will be convened at the beginning of each semester (September and March).

A student entrepreneur will no longer be part of the Elite programme according to 3 criteria:

  • End of project
  • Graduation
  • Non-compliance with validation milestones

Assos elite

Assos elite

The “Assos élite” curriculum programme is designed to recognize and reward students who have taken on significant responsibilities within student associations. Registration is valid for the semester corresponding to this commitment but and is not retroactive.

Who is it for?

This course is designed to support and facilitate taking on responsibilities that are deemed a service of the community, with the ambition of managing teams and setting up projects to animate student life at UTC-Compiegne.

This pathway is not intended to attest to any involvement per se in the university associations, but rather to give greater value to positions of considerable responsibility. Thus, the semester arrangements put in place on request as part of the pathway help to facilitate the balance between academic success and associative responsibilities.

Some examples of profiles:

  • President of the Student Union (BDE). At the head of the associative federation for 1 year, he/she coordinates the BDE team (treasurer, general secretary, etc.) as well as the 4 poles (Campus Life Pole, Artistic and Event Pole, Solidarity and Citizenship Pole, Technology and Entrepreneurship Pole) which federate the nearly 120 associations present at UTC-Compiegne. Together with the Student Life Officer, he coordinates the Associative LifeAt meetings held twice weekly;
  • President of Etuville (Gala semester only);
  • Holders of multiple positions (vice-president of one association and treasurer of another);

Course advantages

  • personalized support;
  • curriculum adjustments;
  • authorised leave of absence linked to the responsibility exercised;
  • possibility of taking a project CC (associative TZ);
  • registration in the diploma supplement.

Admissions

The Assos-élite programme offers two types of admission:

  • automatic admission via a list of positions identified by the BDE-UTC federation;
  • admission by application to the course leader via an application form.

To apply, you are required to contact Mme Véronique Hédou, in charge of UTC student life, at the beginning of the semester. Please note that if necessary, you may be called in for an interview.
